About Adobe Fireworks

Fireworks is the solution for professional Web graphics design and production. Fireworks allows you to add interactivity to your web graphics to create links, create rollover buttons and animated gifs. It also allows you to optimise web graphics to reduce the file size without sacrificing quality.

Another option is that you can work with both vector and bitmap features together and whilst Fireworks is primarily a design application for screen graphics — you can export to applications such as Illustrator, and reuse graphics designed in Fireworks for print purposes.

Adobe Fireworks Essentials 1 Day Course Outline

Essentials

This course is ideal for users who want to learn key Fireworks concepts and techniques to save time throughout the Web design process, using the essential features—slicing, animation, export settings and optimisation.

Preview all your work, including rollovers, without leaving the workspace, and compare files as they would be exported.

Drawing with Fireworks

Fireworks blurs the distinction between vector graphics and bitmap image graphics. Objects drawn in Fireworks have editable vector paths, yet magnifying a Fireworks object reveals pixels, which redraw in response to vector editing.

Drawing path objects is the default mode, creating artwork with paths and anchor points. You can also draw, paint, and edit pixels using traditional bitmap techniques like painting and masking.

Optimising

The ultimate goal in Web graphic design is to create great looking images that download as fast as possible. Optimisation settings apply only to exported images. Therefore, you can work freely through the creative process of design without worrying too much about limiting colour usage or applying effects. Then compare optimisation settings that are best for your image when you are ready to export.
