Introduction to WordPress

WordPress is a platform for creating, editing and maintaining websites that are based on existing themed templates, which use mobile-ready designs. You can choose from thousands of templates available on the internet which vary in price and with some even being free.

This course offers a solid foundation in the methods used to plan, build, maintain and customise a WordPress website.

In this one-day WordPress introduction course, you will customise WordPress, create pages and posts, insert images, video and PDFs, extend WordPress functionality with plugins and widgets, work with themes, customise site design, explore methods for keeping your site secure, manage user accounts, learn how to plan a site and choose web hosting.

Please note that as a public course with the limitations of being only 1-day, the focus is on using one specific ‘entry level’ theme that best demonstrates the ability and potential of WordPress. Time does not permit you to work on your own website or theme, although you will be able to apply many the concepts to your own site post training. Should you wish to work specifically on your own website, it is recommended you book a private training session. Similarly, if you have an existing WordPress site that uses a complex theme, and you have limited HTML & CSS knowledge, private training will be a better option.

While no previous coding experience is required to attend this course, an understanding of basic HTML & CSS is helpful – see our 1 day HTML course. This course is suitable for people who wish to start a new site or have been given the responsibility of running an existing site to the extent of what is in the course outline below. Please contact us if you are uncertain of the complexity of your existing site.
